For months, King Harald had repeatedly been confronted with health problems, including heart surgery. But now he seems to be doing better.
On February 27, just six days after his 87th birthday, the Norwegian royal family announced that King Harald V had to be admitted to a hospital in Malaysia. The statement said the monarch fell ill while on vacation.
A few days later it became clear that the king’s heart rate was too low to return home. Therefore, a pacemaker was inserted into him. The Regent was then able to fly back to Norway – things have been quiet for him since then. But a new photo lets royal fans breathe a sigh of relief.
“Nice to see you together again”
Just in time for Easter, the Norwegian Krone publishes a family photo. In addition to Queen Sonja, heir to the throne Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, King Harald V also poses for the camera. He is sitting on a chair, has a smile on his lips – no trace of the exhausting time of the past few weeks. “The Royal Family wishes everyone a Happy Easter,” reads the caption under the social media post.
The royal fans are correspondingly relieved. “It’s nice to see you together again”, “We’re all happy that the king is feeling better again” and “It’s great that King Harald is there too, I wish him a good recovery,” are just a few of the Instagram messages -Comments.
There is no princess in the picture
But the royal family is not completely complete in the photo: Princess Märtha Louise, the daughter of King Harald and Queen Sonja, is missing. She stepped down from her royal duties in November 2022. The reason: Her fiancé, Durek Verrett, repeatedly ended up in the headlines. The shaman made a name for himself with bizarre theories, claiming, among other things, to be “half human, half reptile.”
In addition, his partnership with the princess was also discussed, because Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett have an open relationship. Despite all the criticism, the two want to take the next step in 2024: their wedding is scheduled to take place on August 31st.
Märtha Louise is considered eccentric. The trained physiotherapist describes herself as a healer and claims to have contact with angels – she tries to pass on this gift through courses and books.
