Rumor Claims Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Models to Offer 2TB Maximum Storage Option

by time news

Rumors of a new 2TB maximum storage option for Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro models have surfaced, originating from China. According to a news aggregator account called “yeux1122” on the Korean Naver blog, a supplier source has confirmed that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will boast double the maximum storage capacity compared to the iPhone 14 Pro models.

Supporting this claim, a Weibo account recently posted the same information, suggesting that the Pro models will start with a minimum of 256GB storage instead of the current base 128GB capacity found in the iPhone 14 models. This would allow Apple to maintain four available storage tiers of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. These potential storage bumps align with recent rumors that Apple intends to raise the prices of the iPhone 15 Pro models this year.

Tech analyst Jeff Pu and Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman both anticipate price hikes for this year’s Pro models. Pu believes that the iPhone 15 Pro could start at $1,099, up from the $999 starting price of the iPhone 14 Pro. Similarly, Gurman suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro Max could start at $1,199.

However, it’s worth noting that the rumor pertaining to the 2TB storage option could be inaccurate. It is possible that Apple is increasing the cost of the devices to boost revenue amid a decline in the smartphone market. Last year, there were speculations about the iPhone 14 Pro models offering a 2TB option, but this did not materialize.

In 2021, Apple introduced a 1TB storage option for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max due to the inclusion of new camera features, including ProRes video, which requires significantly more storage. To record ProRes video in 4K at 30 frames per second, a minimum storage capacity of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB is necessary for the iPhone 14 Pro models. The iPhone 14 Pro models with 128GB storage capacity are limited to recording ProRes video in 1080p at 30 frames per second. If Apple does increase the base storage to 256GB for the iPhone 15 Pro, all models would become capable of recording ProRes video in 4K at 30fps.

In just over a month, Apple’s annual iPhone event is expected to take place on either Tuesday, September 12, or Wednesday, September 13, according to Mark Gurman. At that event, all speculation will be laid to rest, and iPhone enthusiasts will learn what Apple truly has in store for the iPhone 15 Pro.
