Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), the capital market regulatory body, said that those involved in spreading rumors or false information in the capital market will be brought under the law by taking appropriate action immediately.

This information was informed in a press release signed by Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Executive Director and Spokesperson of BSEC on Sunday (March 17).

According to the press release, it is noticed that some baseless rumors and false information are being purposefully spread on various issues of the capital market on online platforms including social media which are not actually correct. Spreading any kind of false information and rumours, including disclosing unpublished information on capital market related matters, forecasting or predicting stock prices etc. in cyberspace including social media is a punishable offense under the Cyber ​​Security Act, 2023.

The notification also mentions that for the sake of the capital market and investors, all those related to the capital market are requested to completely refrain from publishing or spreading such rumors and false information. Those who purposefully spread baseless rumors and false information are warned that those involved in spreading or spreading rumors or false information will be immediately brought under the law by taking appropriate action against them.
