Time.news – Struggling with the Delta variant, Russia has registered a new death record of Covid for the fifth consecutive day: there were 697 in the last 24 hours, the health authorities announced. The new cases in the last 24 hours were 24,439, the highest number since mid-January, when the country was emerging from the second wave.

The capital Moscow, where it is located the main outbreak of the epidemic, recorded 116 deaths. At the moment, only 23.6 million Russians are vaccinated out of a total of 146 million, or 16% of the population. In several regions, including that of Moscow, the authorities have taken measures to encourage people to get vaccinated.

To counter the Delta variant, Moscow has also launched one campaign for a third vaccine booster for those who received the first two doses over six months ago. On Wednesday, President Vladimir Putin urged his fellow citizens to “listen to the experts” and not the rumors circulating about Covid.

In fact there is in the country a strong distrust of vaccines.
