Centurion: Shardul Thakur was sent off on the fourth day of the Centurion Test (SA vs IND) against South Africa. Shardul, who went down with KL Rahul as a night watchman on the third day, was caught early in the fourth day. Thakur edged the ball to Kagiso Rabada for 10 before Vian Mulder was caught on the second slip. Thakur’s contribution was 10 runs.

Fans took to social media to accuse Thakur of being out on a no-ball after the wicket fell. Along with the picture, the fans allege that the ball thrown by Rabada was an over step no ball. Fans also asked if the third umpire, who should have called no ball, was asleep.

Rabada bowled 11 no-balls in the first innings and five no-balls in the second innings. However, fans questioned the umpire’s decision not to check whether Rabada had overstated his wicket. Under the new rules, the on-field umpire will be replaced by a third umpire called No Ball. But fans wondered if the umpire had turned a blind eye to Thakur’s wicket.

This year, Thakur has scored 200 runs at an average of 33.33, including three fifties in Tests.
