Talking about his cricketing career, former Indian captain Ganguly quipped that Sachin is a sane man but Sehwag is not crazy.
“Sachin is special, I have seen him up close. Once he was hit in the ribs, he didn’t make a sound. I went and asked if you have any problem, but he started scoring runs continuously. The next morning he suffered double fractures in his ribs,” Ganguly said.
Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly spoke to reporters after attending a private corporate event in Abu Dhabi. When reporters asked him many questions about his cricket career, he opened up and gave many excellent answers.
Asked who he enjoyed opening with the most out of Sachin and Sehwag, he quipped, “Sachin is very smart, Sehwag is crazy. So it’s Sachin. Sachin really raised my game.”
To another question about who is your most admired player, Ganguly once again chose the name of the Little Master. “It’s Sachin, he’s special. I have seen him up close. I have seen him hit in the ribs. He didn’t make any noise and started scoring runs. The next morning he had suffered double fractures to his ribs. “When I played with him, my batting skills also improved,” he said.
Asked where is the most challenging to play Test matches – Australia or England, he answered Australia. And when asked to choose one between the Indian captain and the BCCI president, Ganguly chose to go with the cricket team.
When asked to choose between India’s 2001 Kolkata Test win or India’s 2002 NatWest Cup final at Lord’s, he said, “The 2001 win changed India into a different team. It boosted the team’s confidence.”
And speaking extensively about Ganguly’s leadership, he said, “It’s important to listen to others. “It’s not my way or the highway,” he said, citing several examples.
Having held several leadership positions, he spoke of the importance of finding the right talent and giving it ample opportunity.
