He is considered the founder of the Church in Constantinople – today, Istanbul, Turkey. It is precisely the heirs of Eastern Christianity who call it “Protocletos“, which in Greek means “the first call.”

The Apostle died crucified in Achaia (Greece). According to tradition, he was placed on a cross in the shape of an “X.” From here arises the so-called “cross cross”, popularly known as the “Cruz de San Andrés”.

This cross continues to be part of Western symbology, as can be seen on national banners and flags, with Scotland’s being one of the most emblematic cases.
