A few upazilas including Nalitabari in Sherpur district and some areas including Dhobaura and Haluaghat in Mymensingh district have been affected by severe floods. Heavy rains from Meghalaya in India and heavy rains on Thursday have led to severe flooding in Nalitabari and nearby areas. Musician Salma Akhter has stood by the flood victims to deal with this disaster. A team of 15-20 members is working in flood-prone areas on behalf of his social organization ‘Safia Foundation’.
Salma writes in the social media Facebook post, ‘Where is the flood situation worse? Please let me know! The target of sending food, drinking water to 3 thousand people from my Safia Foundation. Thank you.’
In the comments section of this post, a person named Pakhi Ankhi wrote, ‘The water is rising in No. 5 Ghazirvita Thal area, all the upstream water is coming down. Since its launch in 2018, this organization has been helping helpless people in various natural disasters. Salmar is assisted by her husband, Barrister Sanaullah Noor Sagar, in carrying out the work of this organization.
Salma pleads, ‘Our life is short. No one knows when someone will be in danger. There is no one to rescue from there except Allah. So I am trying to help as much as I can. Come forward too.’
