Samsung is preparing to make firmware updates more convenient with the upcoming Galaxy S25 series, which is reported to feature seamless update support. This long-awaited function promises to reduce device downtime during system upgrades. As Android Authority reports, leaked files suggest that the Galaxy S25 Ultra, as well as the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus, will feature seamless A/C connectivity. B will support updates. This means that system updates can now be installed in the background, and changes will only be applied after a reboot. This feature is designed to save users from the irritation caused by lengthy “update is installing” screens.

What will happen if the update fails?

The seamless update relies on a dual-partition system, in which one slot (A or B) runs the operating system while the other serves as a backup. The update is applied to unused slots, and the device switches on after a reboot. This not only ensures minimal disruption but also provides a safeguard — if the update fails, the phone can revert to the previous version.

Although this feature requires additional storage space, the advances in storage capacity of flagship phones make this a minor compromise for utility. Even though seamless updates were introduced with Android Nougat 7.1 in 2016, Samsung was slow to adopt this technology. Earlier this year, the company took the first step towards this feature with the Galaxy A55 update.

The Galaxy S25 series will now make it to Samsung’s flagship lineup, marking a significant change in user experience. Additionally, along with the seamless update, the Galaxy S25 Ultra (model SM-S938) is expected to include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, codenamed “Pacala”. It promises cutting-edge performance for Samsung’s next generation premium devices.
