UPIA (Arunachal Pradesh): Santosh Trophy football quarter final matches will start today. Services and Railways will face each other in the first match at the Golden Jubilee Stadium today from 2.30 PM. There will be a clash between Goa and Delhi from 7 pm. There were 37 teams in the competition.
In the quarter, Services, Goa, Kerala and Assam from Group A and Manipur, Mizoram, Delhi and Railways from Group B reached the quarter. Services is a six-time champion team. Railways have won the Santosh Trophy three times. Services have lost only to Goa (2-1) in the matches till quarter. They have also played in the semi-finals except once in the last four seasons. Railways is hoping to play in the semi-finals after a decade.
It will take a lot of work to beat Railways Services, who are behind in goals. Railwaymen have scored only four goals in the last five matches. Goa is a five-time champion team. They last won the title 26 years ago.
Delhi could become champions only once. In 1944 Delhi’s crown was won. Goa’s Nesio Maristo Fernandez and Joshua Da Silva’s brilliant form is enough to put the Delhiites to sleep. Seven Delhi players scored in the final round. But their defense is giving them ten goals in five matches.
