Chancellor Olaf Scholz canceled appointments planned for Sunday in Hesse because of a sports injury. A spokesman for the federal government said on Saturday that he had fallen while jogging and had bruises on his face.

However, the injury is not considered serious. “His appointments in the coming week are not affected,” said the government spokesman. An appearance at the International Motor Show IAA is planned for Tuesday. The newspaper “Frankfurter Rundschau” had previously reported on the incident.

Scholz was expected on Sunday in Hesse for election campaign dates. The federal state will hold elections on October 8th. The “Frankfurter Rundschau” and the “Bild” newspaper had previously reported.

According to the SPD state association, the official start of the election campaign of the Hessian SPD top candidate and Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser in Bad Homburg will take place as planned. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius will accompany them, it said.

Scholz is considered a regular jogger and rower. His predecessor, Angela Merkel, was injured while cross-country skiing in 2014 and sustained a severe bruise with an incomplete fracture in the rear left pelvic ring. As a result, Merkel had to cancel some appointments and trips.
