The President of the Parliament of Hamburg, Carola White, at the invitation of the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, Alexander Belsky, visited St. Petersburg. As part of the negotiations, the speakers of the two parliaments opened an exhibition of children’s drawings “Let’s go, I’ll show you my city.” The event was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of cooperation between the parliaments of Hamburg and St. Petersburg.

Karola White and Alexander Belsky congratulated the winners and prize-winners of the competition via videoconference. “Your desire to share views of your favorite corners of our city with the German children will definitely arouse their interest in St. Petersburg and its beauties. Perhaps someday they will come to visit you. You will meet them and make friends. When children are friends, their parents and adults are also ready to communicate, to understand each other better. Today, this is especially important,” said Alexander Belsky. The speaker of the St. Petersburg parliament expressed his gratitude to the President of Burgerschaft for the initiative to organize the competition, members of the jury and teachers of the schools where the laureates study.

Ms. White emphasized that the children of the two countries’ desire for peace and friendship is clearly seen in the drawings, and that it is very important for modern politicians to be inspired by such children’s initiatives. The president of Bürgerschaft added that she would work on the issue of exchange for contestants from the two countries. In addition, Carola White stressed the importance of close cooperation between the sister cities: “The parliamentary partnership with St. Petersburg has existed for 25 years. Until now, we have always managed to maintain a culture of dialogue even in difficult political situations. We have a lot of work ahead of us.”

The winners and prize-winners were also congratulated by Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in St. Petersburg Stefano Weinberger, Chairman of the Jury, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Legislative Assembly on Education, Culture and Science Yury Avdeev, Chairman of the Board of the St. Petersburg Association for International Cooperation Margarita Mudrak.
