Scientists from Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology (MPICE) have warned of a significant increase in deaths due to climate change and air pollution by the end of the 21st century.

As Day.Az reports, the results of the study were published in the journal Nature Communications (NatCom).

In their study, based on computer modeling, the scientists used data on temperature forecasts and air pollution levels since 2000.

In their opinion, by the end of the 21st century, these factors could cause 30 million additional deaths. The leader of the research team, Andrea Pozzer from the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, noted that annual deaths could rise to 19.5 million people.

The study found that air pollution could increase overall mortality by five times, and temperature changes by seven. Scientists also suggested that by 2100, about 20% of the world’s population will be forced to adapt to extreme temperature fluctuations.
