Last month, in an interview with Mossaf Women, Grant returned to the prayer that changed her: “A prayer that I prayed and remembers in particular took place in 2008. When Abram (her ex-husband) coached the English football team Chelsea, and I went to Safed before the fateful match in the Chelsea Champions League final Against Liverpool. It was the coldest day of the year, Safed was snowy and they connected me with a prayer man who would help me make a journey to the graves of the righteous.”
Grant described Shemaya and Abtalion’s arrival at Zion, which also has a mikveh. “I prayed a powerful prayer there that things would work out and that Abram would succeed in the game. After that, the man who was with me guarded the door for me from the outside and I bathed in the freezing cold in the mikveh, but when I came out I felt warm, as if I was next to a burning fireplace.”
