Sebastian Hoeneß secured the runner-up title with VfB Stuttgart last season. Afterwards, a big club is said to have come knocking.
VfB Stuttgart was runner-up behind Bayer Leverkusen last season. Together with coach Sebastian Hoeneß, the Swabians played a fantastic season. This is said to have aroused interest from other clubs in Hoeneß. As “Bild” reports, Manchester United would have liked to sign the 42-year-old.
Even before the Premier League club was said to have extended the contract with the criticized coach Erik ten Hag, Hoeneß was asked. Those responsible for the “Red Devils” are said to have explored possible change options.
However, negotiations are said not to have even taken place because Hoeneß canceled immediately. He wanted to continue his journey with the Stuttgart team and had just extended his contract by two years in the spring of this year.
The current Stuttgart coach said when his contract was extended: “For me, VfB is a special club. Even as a little boy, I sat here in the stadium and cheered for VfB.”
Sebastian Hoeneß himself also played for the Swabians. He played for VfB’s youth team and later also the U17s before moving to Hertha BSC’s U19s. Therefore, Hoeneß continued: “As a youth player, around 25 years ago, I also wore the coat of arms on my chest for three years and became German champion with VfB U17. For me, VfB means emotion – something very special.”
