Editor: Welcome, everyone. Today we have the honor of discussing the upcoming 2025 World Rally Championship season opener with none other then eight-time World Rally Champion, Sebastien Ogier. As he’s preparing for the Monte Carlo Rally,scheduled from january 23-26,Sebastien,could you share what makes this event so unique for you?
Ogier: Thank you for having me. Monte Carlo is special not only as of its rich history but also because it’s my home rally, taking place in my hometown of Gap.Despite my experience, it’s never easy. The conditions are highly unpredictable, which adds to the complexity and challenge.
Editor: Speaking of challenges, you mentioned in a recent statement that the new tire regulations and the absence of hybrid technology make readiness tougher than ever. Can you elaborate on how these changes affect the way you approach this rally?
Ogier: Absolutely. With the introduction of the new Hankook tires replacing Pirelli, I’ve had to adapt my driving style and techniques substantially.This is my second outing with a Rally1 car without hybrid assistance, and I can tell you, it feels different. The absence of hybrid tech means we have to rely solely on our skill set and the cars’ mechanics. Adaptability will be crucial, as each stage can present different grip levels and weather conditions.
Editor: It sounds like a real test of both driver and machine. How has the testing process been for you with the new Yaris and tires?
Ogier: The testing has been valuable. Each run gives insights into the car’s performance with the new tires. Initially, it can feel daunting, but every test helps me understand how to push the limits while staying safe. I believe this foundation is crucial for a strong performance in Monte Carlo.
