Seminar on methane emissions in Baku

In Baku within Baku Climate Action Week regional started seminar on solving problems with methane emissionsreports Day.Az with reference to Trend.

As a representative of the International Energy Agency (IEA) said at the opening of the seminar: Tim Gould (Tim Gould), this workshop follows a high-level event on methane organized by the IEA and the COP29 Presidency in New York last week on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The workshop brought together experts for technical discussions on strategies and actions to combat methane emissions from fossil fuels as well as organic waste.

“The workshop addresses methane challenges and opportunities specific to the Caucasus and Central Asia region and aims to promote greater regional and international cooperation to reduce methane emissions and achieve Net Zero,” Gould emphasized.

It should be noted that among the participants of the event in Baku are representatives of international organizations, such as the International Methane Emissions Observatory, as well as representatives of international and national oil companies, including those that have joined the Charter for the Decarbonization of Oil and Gas.

The workshop will discuss opportunities to reduce methane emissions using the results of the IEA Global Methane Tracker and the work of the International Methane Emissions Observatory.

Strategies for overcoming financial and regulatory barriers to reducing methane emissions will also be examined.

This workshop is important given that Azerbaijan, as chair of COP29, initiated the adoption of the Declaration on Reducing Methane Emissions from Organic Waste and Food Systems in November.

In addition, Azerbaijan in 2023-2024. joined a number of international initiatives to reduce methane emissions.
