The Seoul Research Institute (President Oh Kyun) will hold the 6th Seoul ESG Management Forum hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Council and co-hosted with the Society for Sustainability Management (President Kim Young-bae) at the Maehwa Hall on the 19th floor of the Korea Press Center on October 10th from 2 p.m. is held.
In this forum, three metropolitan governments in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Chungcheongnam-do that are leading the way in achieving ESG management and carbon neutrality goals were invited to discuss cooperation between local governments and the private sector under the theme of “Public-private ESG management and cooperation measures to achieve carbon neutrality goals.” We discuss the case intensively.
The Seoul ESG Management Forum, which started in June of this year, successfully concluded its 5th forum last September and broadly discussed agendas in the areas of environment, society, and governance. Experts and citizens held heated discussions on ways to respond to the carbon border adjustment system to achieve the carbon neutral goal, ways to revitalize climate technology, social responsibility for major disaster safety and greenwashing, and solutions to value-up programs and fair trade issues.
The 6th Seoul ESG Management Forum began with an opening speech by Seoul Institute President Oh Gyun, followed by a congratulatory speech by Seoul Institute Chairman Choi Ho-jeong, Seoul Metropolitan Government Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs Kim Byeong-min, Environment and Water Resources Committee Chairman Lim Man-gyun, and Kim Gyeong-won, research from the Future Convergence Strategy Office of the Seoul Institute. Progress report by committee members ▴It will be held in the order of presentations by heads of departments related to local government ESG management and discussions by experts.
The forum will be divided into Part 1 and Part 2 under the theme of ‘Public-Private ESG Management and Cooperation Plans to Achieve Carbon Neutrality Goals’.
In Part 1, the first presenter, Park Sook-hee, head of the Climate and Environment Policy Division at the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Climate and Environment Headquarters, presented on ‘Status of Seoul’s Carbon Neutral Policy Promotion’. Next, Nam Seung-hong, head of the Carbon Neutral Economy Division of the Chungcheongnam-do Industrial Economy Office, gave a presentation on ‘Cases of Special Carbon Neutral Economy Projects Led by Chungcheongnam-do’.
In the first part of the general discussion, experts in the field of carbon neutrality participated, including ▴Kim Gyeong-won, a researcher at the Future Convergence Strategy Office of the Seoul Institute of Technology; ▴Ahn Young-hwan, a professor of the Department of Climate, Environment and Energy at Sookmyung Women’s University; ▴Lee Seung-eon, a senior research fellow at the Architectural Energy Research Institute of the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology; and ▴Lim Jae-gyu, a professor of economics at Soongsil University. Experts and citizens will hold in-depth discussions on the status of local governments’ carbon neutrality efforts and public-private cooperation plans.
Part 2 provides a forum for discussion on the achievements each local government has made for a sustainable future. Lee Jin-gu, head of the Transportation Policy Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Transportation Office, gave a presentation on ‘Cases of Private Cooperation Climate Companion Cards in the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Transportation Office’, followed by Kim Yeon-ji, head of the Energy Industry Division of Gyeonggi Province’s Climate, Environment and Energy Department, who gave a presentation on ‘Gyeonggi RE100 Promotion Status and Tasks’. .
In the second part of the comprehensive discussion, ESG management experts and department heads of private partner organizations, including ▴Professor Eui-chan Jeon of Sejong University’s Graduate School of Climate Change Specialization, ▴T Money Co., Ltd. Executive Director Kim Jeong-ryeol, and ▴Hanwha Solutions Co., Ltd. Business Support Team Leader Jeong Gyu-chang, participated as panelists to discuss public and private discussions to revitalize ESG management in the future.
