WWE Superstar Seth Rollins recently shared the story behind his ring name, revealing the pivotal role wrestling icon Dusty Rhodes played in its creation.

How did Seth Rollins get his name,and why did he keep his previous moniker a secret?
Before captivating audiences as Seth Rollins in WWE, the athlete competed on the independent circuit under the name Tyler Black. He revealed on the “Games With Names” podcast, that he actually owns the rights to the Tyler Black name and wouldn’t relinquish it to WWE. Rollins explained that he compiled lists of potential first and last names, ultimately leaving the final decision to Rhodes, who was head of creative and developmental at the time.
“Dusty [decided it]. Not came up with it, but put it together,” rollins said. “So, I just got lists of last names and first names that I liked. I don’t even actually know why Seth was on the first name list. I think it was just because I was going thru names that people didn’t have on the main roster, and Seth, I don’t know [why] I put it on there. I don’t think I had any reason for it but Rollins was on there because I was a big henry Rollins fan. Thought Henry Rollins was a cool guy. I took this list to Dusty Rhodes, who was the head of creative and developmental at the time, and it was his job to suss out a name and figure out what he wanted and he just really liked the name Seth Rollins, baby.”
Rollins, who joined WWE in 2010 after a accomplished run in Ring of Honor (ROH) as Tyler Black-where he even held the ROH World Championship-also clarified that he retains ownership of the Tyler Black name. He hinted that he could potentially revisit that ring name should he ever depart from WWE.
