Baywatch actor David Charvet credited with helping Shannen Doherty during cancer battle
Actress Shannen Doherty has opened up about the support she received from former Baywatch actor David Charvet during her eight-year battle with cancer. Speaking on her Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty podcast, the 52-year-old star revealed that Charvet reached out to her with contact details of an oncologist who had helped save his father’s life.
“I was definitely feeling adrift, if you will, in my cancer journey,” Doherty said. “And I knew that something needed to change. I just didn’t know how to change it.”
Charvet’s recommendation led Doherty to her oncologist, Dr. Lawrence Piro, whom she described as being not intimidated by her and as someone who was thoughtful with her care – something that was incredibly important to her.
Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and went into remission in 2017, but the cancer returned in 2019 and she revealed in 2020 that she was battling stage four cancer.
David Charvet, known for his role on Baywatch with Pamela Anderson, has been married to Dancing With The Stars veteran Brooke Burke and the couple has two children together.
Doherty’s openness about her cancer battle and the support she received from Charvet highlight the importance of friends and community in the journey of those battling cancer.
