Pune: The founding leader of the party, Sharad Pawar, has opposed the Election Commission’s decision to recognize the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction as an official faction in Maharashtra. Pawar said that the Election Commission’s decision was shocking and that the party was cheated from its founders and given to others.

“I firmly believe that the people will not accept the decision of the Election Commission. We have approached the Supreme Court against this decision. The Election Commission has not only tampered with our symbol but has also handed over the party to others. This party has been cheated from its founders and nurturers and given to someone else. This has never happened before in this country. Sharad Pawar said.
NCP was formed by Sharad Pawar in 1999 after breaking away from Congress. Last week, the Election Commission recognized the NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar as the official faction in Maharashtra. The commission informed that they can use the party’s name and ‘clock’ symbol. The decision of the commission came after 6 months of hearing.
Out of the total 87 representatives of the party, 57 are on Ajit Pawar’s side. In its order, the commission said that the party’s declared goals and constitution are also accepted by Ajith Paksha. The commission named the faction led by Sharad Pawar as ‘NCP- Sharad Chandra Pawar’ faction.
The Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance was hit hard by the NCP split in July last year when Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde led Shiv Sena-BJP government joined. After this, Ajit Pawar took charge as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
