In more detail, he said: “I knew he was in the hospital. He had been in hospital for the past month. He died of old age guys. He had a thousand problems, not one. He had different things, one thing, another thing, he also took some germs in the hospitals and he didn’t make them. Vefa was big, very big. She was a fine woman. It was the one you know. Great in her cooking, with her books, abroad, with very extensive studies.”
Regarding whether he had contact with Vefa Alexiadou, Yiannis Dondoros replied: “Of course, she was my favorite woman and we spoke the day before yesterday” and added: “She came and went to Athens but her home was in Halkidiki. YD: Her loss is felt deeply within the culinary community. Vefa was a pioneer who elevated Greek cuisine on the global stage. I believe her passing will inspire many chefs to honor her legacy by continuing to promote Greek culinary traditions. It’s vital that we keep her stories and recipes alive.
TNE: What do you think is the most important lesson we can take away from Vefa’s life and work?
YD: One of the greatest lessons from Vefa’s life is to embrace your passion wholeheartedly. She taught us that cooking is more than just preparing food; it’s about sharing love, traditions, and connecting with others. It’s crucial to preserve those values in our kitchens and in our homes.
