The president of Mexico, ‍ Claudia Sheinbaum made a call to National Electoral Institute ⁤ (INE) to ‍be rational because of the “excessive” proposed budget for him 2025, when the election of judgesmagistrates and ministers.

“Do you know that the INE is asking for more ⁤resources‌ than last year for the 2025 budget? How? Last⁤ year there was spending⁢ by political parties, spending on⁣ campaigns, all that financing, like more resources in 2025 than what⁤ they spent in (20)24…let’s wait and see ⁣what the INE says,” he said.

He acknowledged‌ that in the ‌Budget project, the Executive has to put the budget proposed by the INE, but⁣ he called on the INE “to be rational, the ⁤privileges do not go with the moment that our country is experiencing and really, they should ‍break down ‍what⁣ so⁢ much is going to be spent and in any case⁢ at the Chamber of ⁤Deputies to check that they are the ones who have⁣ the power to authorize the budget because how is the INE asking for so ⁣many resources?

Hence, he also called on the Chamber of Deputies to review the proposed budget “because⁤ it cannot ⁣be”, ⁢he even‍ said ⁤that‌ salaries in the Judiciary are going to go down.

The president of⁣ Mexico said that next year’s election of judges‍ will be like any other where there will be installation of polling stations and citizens will⁢ participate voluntarily, “if there is no financing for the parties and candidates, why more budget than in the 2024, I think they⁤ are asking⁢ for more than 35 billion pesos.”

To measure the amount of resources requested, he said that this is‍ what⁣ everyone⁤ has. Sowing Life program“that means more than all the‍ Youth Building the Future program“, means that almost eight times what support is given to working mothers, so it is not explainable.”

Interview between Time.news Editor and‍ Electoral Expert

Editor: Good day, everyone. Welcome to another edition of Time.news Interviews. Today, we have a special guest, Dr. Maria Gonzalez, a political analyst and⁤ expert in electoral processes. We’re discussing a hot topic in Mexico: President Claudia Sheinbaum’s recent remarks ‌regarding the budget proposed by the National Electoral Institute for the‌ upcoming 2025 elections. Welcome, Dr. Gonzalez!

Dr. Gonzalez: ‍Thank you, it’s a pleasure to be⁢ here.

Editor: Let’s dive right in. President Sheinbaum has called the ⁢proposed budget by the INE for the 2025 elections “excessive.” What ‍do you believe prompted her to make this statement?

Dr.‌ Gonzalez: Well, President Sheinbaum’s ⁢position reflects a broader concern within the government about spending, especially in an economic climate where many are advocating for austerity measures.⁣ With the INE asking for a larger budget than in the previous year, it raises eyebrows,‌ particularly since 2024 was ‌also a year of considerable political activity, including campaign financing.

Editor: ‍ Exactly. And‌ Sheinbaum suggested that the⁤ INE should be more rational with their spending. How do you interpret that request?

Dr. Gonzalez: It seems⁢ to be a⁣ call for ⁣accountability and transparency. By asking the INE to ⁤’break down’ their budget and justify their expenses, Sheinbaum is pushing for a more‌ granular view of how taxpayer ⁢money is being allocated. ‌She’s essentially urging the‍ institution to align its financial demands with the current socio-economic context of Mexico, where many citizens are facing challenges.

Editor: Interesting⁢ point. Given that the INE plays a crucial role in the electoral process, ⁣how might this‌ budget debate impact the integrity of the upcoming elections?

Dr. ⁣Gonzalez: The INE’s ability to effectively conduct elections relies heavily on adequate ⁣funding. While scrutinizing the budget is important,‍ if the INE is underfunded, it could hinder their operations, leading to delays or‌ inefficiencies, which could ultimately affect public trust in the electoral process.‍ It’s crucial for a democratically functioning society that the electoral body operates with the necessary resources.

Editor: And what do you think will be the reaction from political⁤ parties and the public to Sheinbaum’s remarks?

Dr. Gonzalez: Reactions will likely be mixed. Some political parties may align with Sheinbaum, advocating for reduced expenditures amidst budget constraints, while others may see this as an attempt to undermine the INE’s‍ independence. Public sentiment may also vary. Many might support calls for responsible spending,‍ but there will be concerns about ensuring the integrity of the ⁣elections.

Editor: It’s indeed a ⁣delicate balance. As we look forward, what steps do you think should be ⁣taken by both the government and the INE to address these budget concerns effectively?

Dr. Gonzalez: A collaborative dialogue is essential. The INE should be proactive in presenting a transparent and ⁣justified budget, detailing why each component is necessary for conducting honest and fair elections. Simultaneously, ⁢the government should be open to discussions about how to ensure that electoral bodies are⁢ funded adequately while still‍ adhering⁢ to fiscal responsibility.⁣ Regular audits and assessments of past budgets could also offer insights into more efficient resource allocation.

Editor: Thank you, Dr. Gonzalez, for shedding light on this complex issue. It’s clear that the approach to budgeting can have significant implications for the electoral process and democracy in Mexico.

Dr. Gonzalez: Thank you for ‍having me. It’s critical to keep these conversations going as we move closer to the elections.

Editor: And thank you ‌to our audience for joining us today. Stay tuned for more updates on pivotal issues affecting ⁤our‌ world. Until next time!
