Sheldon Cooper Meets Young Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory Crossover: Young Sheldon to End After 7 Seasons

by time news

In a historic first, the CBS comedies “The Big Bang Theory” and “Young Sheldon” are set to cross paths as young and adult versions of Sheldon Cooper come face to face.

The crossover will take place in Thursday’s episode of “The Big Bang Theory,” where the adult Sheldon, played by Jim Parsons, will watch a video of his younger self, portrayed by Iain Armitage in “Young Sheldon.”

This comes as “Young Sheldon” has announced that the upcoming seventh season will be its last, with a one-hour series finale scheduled for May 16. The final season is set to premiere on February 15, marking the end of the coming-of-age sitcom that serves as a prequel to the massively popular “The Big Bang Theory.”

Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, expressed anticipation for the final season of “Young Sheldon,” stating, “We look forward to seeing their final season unfold and giving it a proper sendoff with the best episodes yet for their fans to enjoy.”

The prequel has been a success since its premiere, becoming the number one new comedy of the 2017-18 TV season and reigning as the top comedy in 2019-20 following the conclusion of “The Big Bang Theory’s” 12-season run.

The meeting of the two Sheldons on TV will likely be a special moment for fans of both shows, as young Sheldon sent a videotape message to his older self during an episode of “The Big Bang Theory” in 2018, introducing the boy genius to the sitcom.

As Iain Armitage, who portrays young Sheldon, responded to the news of the show’s conclusion on Instagram, promising to “make the best 7th season we can possibly make,” adding that there will be “lots of laughter and lots of tears” behind the scenes, because of his love for the show and its cast.

“Behind the scenes there will be lots of laughter and lots of tears,” Armitage added. “Because I love all of these people so much.”

While fans may be sad to see “Young Sheldon” come to an end, the upcoming crossover event is sure to be a special moment for viewers of both comedies.
