As part of the events dedicated to the year “Shusha – the cultural capital of the Islamic world in 2024“, on October 11, 2024, a symposium began in Shusha”Islamic architectural heritage of the city of Shusha“, organized by the Department of the State Historical and Architectural Reserve of the city of Shusha with the support of ISESCO.

According to the Karabakh Bureau of Trend, the symposium, which will last until October 13, along with Azerbaijan, will be attended by more than 80 architects from Turkey, Egypt, UAE, Tunisia, Kenya, Jordan, Italy, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Great Britain, Day.Az reports.

According to information, on the first day of the symposium, the executive director of the Office of the State Historical and Architectural Reserve of the city of Shusha Tural Novruzov and the architects of the reserve introduced foreign architects to the historical and architectural monuments of the city of Shusha, restored mosques, and fortress walls. Guests were provided with extensive information about the large-scale infrastructure projects being carried out today towards the restoration of the city of Shusha, rich in ancient historical cultural monuments, and the continuation of work on improvement, construction, reconstruction, and a walk around the city was organized.

At the opening ceremony of the symposium, speeches were made by the special representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Shusha region Aydin Kerimov, deputy chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture Ilgar Isbatov, UNESCO expert Pietro Laureano, official representative of ISESCO Bilal Chelebi, who noted that this event would be a great contribution to the development sector the art of architecture from the point of view of the specifics of the architecture of the city of Shusha, the history and importance of the art of architecture of the Islamic world.

The symposium was also attended by employees of the Special Representative Office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Shusha region, the State Service for the Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, and the Office of the State Historical and Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher”.
