My style has incorporated elements from the ’90s grunge scene, blending calm verses with powerful guitar-heavy choruses. I hope the listeners find a sense of tranquility in the chaos of punk, which seems notably relevant in today’s post-brexit era.
Editor: You emphasize the importance of vulnerability in your performances, stating that it can be a painful experience. Could you elaborate on that aspect and how it influences your songwriting?
Nilüfer Yanya: Absolutely. For me, being on stage without a mask is crucial. I want to connect with my audience on a personal level, and that requires exposing my true self. It can be daunting, but it’s also essential as an artist. My songwriting has naturally developed around this ethos,leading me to write melodies and lyrics that resonate with those emotions.
Editor: You’ve mentioned the influence of iconic artists like the Pixies and PJ harvey on your music. How do thes influences manifest in your sound?
Nilüfer Yanya: Both the Pixies and PJ Harvey have a way of balancing softness with intensity, which I aspire to do in my own music. Such as,the unpredictable shifts in their songs inspire me to experiment with contrasting dynamics—gentle,melodic moments can suddenly explode into something loud and chaotic,capturing the complexity of emotions that we all experience.
Editor: Many of your early songs gained popularity on platforms like SoundCloud. What advice would you give to emerging artists trying to navigate the digital music landscape today?
Nilüfer Yanya: Utilize technology to your advantage! Platforms like soundcloud are great for getting your music out there, but authenticity is key. Focus on developing your unique voice and style rather then mimicking trends. Engagement with your audience is also vital; sharing your journey transparently helps you build a connection that goes beyond the music.
Editor: Your decision to learn guitar, write, and develop your sound independently is inspiring. For artists who might feel discouraged about their lack of formal training, what can you share about that journey?
Nilüfer Yanya: It’s meaningful to remember that every artist’s journey is personal. I never took formal singing lessons; I learned through experimentation. Embrace your uniqueness; there’s no right or wrong way to create.If you’re passionate about what you do, that passion will shine through your music, regardless of how you got there.

Nilüfer Yanya: I’m excited to share this new chapter with my fans!
