BOLZANO. The spectacle is guaranteed: Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, respectively the number 1 and number 2 in the world ranking, will face each other today 19 October (not before 8pm) in the final of the Six Kings Slam, the very rich performance in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The two will compete for the “crown” of king and above all the very rich prize pool (6 million dollars will go to the winner). A tournament which, aside from the staggering numbers, has so far provided moments of beautiful tennis, such as the semi-final between Novak Djokovic and Sinner, decided in the third set after two and a half hours of play.
«It was a tough match. We tried to play every point playing at our best, we took it seriously while also trying to do something different on the pitch” Sinner said at the end of the match, promising the public for today “the best show possible. I’m sure it will be a very fun match.” After dominating Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals, the South Tyrolean had to fight against Novak Djokovic, defeated in the third set while Alcaraz got the better of first Holger Rune and then his idol Rafael Nadal, the latter now one step away from retiring ( which will take place after the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga next November).
Today’s will be a sort of revenge even if there are no ATP points up for grabs: in this 2024 Sinner has always emerged defeated in matches against the Murcian (who among other things is ahead 6-4 over the South Tyrolean in overall matches). . The two last faced each other just two weeks ago in the final of the China Open in Beijing, which the Spaniard won. Sinner will try to break the “Carlos taboo” given the three defeats this season against the Spanish tennis player. «Jannik is now the best in the world, what he is doing this year is fantastic. Ours have always been hard, beautiful battles. I’m sure that whoever comes here will enjoy a good show”, Alcaraz’s words. A rivalry, the one between the South Tyrolean and the Spaniard, which starts from afar and is destined to last a long time.
