Industry Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said that our neighboring countries including India, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Malaysia are rich in tourism industry. Our beloved motherland Bangladesh has a lot of potential in the tourism sector with the combination of rivers, seas, mountains, forests and beautiful nature. In this era of free market economy, smart tourism like Smart Bangladesh will be developed through quality services, favorable environment and collective efforts.

He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the iftar party organized by the Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh at a hotel in the capital on Monday.

Welcoming the new committee of the organization, the minister said that tourism is a big industry. Atab should play a more important and effective role in increasing the contribution of the tourism sector to the GDP.

Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said that ensuring the safety of local and foreign tourists is one of the elements of smart tourism. The government is working towards this goal, one of the examples of which is the establishment of tourist police.

He said that a decision will be taken after discussions with the new committee on how to cooperate with ATAB on behalf of the Ministry of Industry.

Chairman of Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority, Air Vice Marshal Md. spoke as a special guest in the event under the chairmanship of ATAB President Abdus Salam Arif. Mofidur Rahman, Tourist Police Chief Additional IGP (Acting) Md. Abu Kalam Siddique and Bangladesh Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Abu Taher Muhammad Jaber.

Afsia Jannat Saleh, general secretary of ATAB, moderated the event.

It should be noted that the new committee of Atab was formed on March 10.
