Smartphone camera resolution will reach a record high in 2024. This was reported in a report by Counterpoint Research, Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru.
Analysts noted that consumer devices are getting better cameras every year. For this reason, in the second quarter of 2024, the average camera resolution of phones shipped to the market reached 54 megapixels. For comparison, in 2020 this figure was 27 megapixels.
Also, more than half of all smartphones sold in the second quarter of 2024 had a camera with a resolution higher than 50 megapixels. In the segment of entry-level and mid-price gadgets, the improvement in camera quality is associated with Android manufacturers: some affordable devices have a 64 or even 108 megapixel camera. Also, Counterpoint Research analysts named camera resolution one of the most important criteria when choosing a smartphone by a consumer.
Most devices with a high-definition camera – 45 percent – had three lenses. The increase in the number of sensors is explained by the fact that phone manufacturers have begun to equip their devices with macro lenses.
