Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen believes there are too many rules for racing at the moment.
“The way things are going, very soon I will have to take the requirements book with me in the car and read it during the race,” said the Dutchman before the Mexican Grand Prix.
When asked if the rules are not too many, the pilot of “Red Bull” replied: “Of course. We are in a situation where almost everything is determined by the rules. The control over Formula 1 is too much, but if they let us race without rules and there is an accident, everyone will say that we need new conditions to comply with.”
McLaren have asked the FIA to review the decision on the controversial penalty that deprived Lando Norris of a place on the podium in the US Grand Prix last week, although they are aware of the minimal chances of anything changing. The Briton was penalized at the very end of the race at the Circuit of the Americas on Sunday after the stewards judged he had overtaken Verstappen by going off the track. Norris had to do so because of the aggressive defense of the world champion, who also left the track.
“Max always drives on the edge of the limit, and that’s why the wheel-to-wheel battles with him are interesting. He never leaves room for anyone. Sometimes he acts cruelly, but this is Formula 1”, commented Charles Leclerc (Ferrari).
