Johannesburg: When Team India takes on South Africa vs India 2nd Test in Johannesburg tomorrow to win the historic Test series against South Africa, captain Virat Kohli will set a personal record. Kohli holds the record for most Test runs by a foreigner at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. Kohli, who has scored a century and two half-centuries in the previous two Tests he has played in Johannesburg, could easily have eaten it.
With seven more runs to go, Virat Kohli can overtake New Zealand’s John Reid for 316 runs. Kohli is second on the list with 310 runs. Australia legend Ricky Ponting (263) and current India coach Rahul Dravid (262) are third and fourth respectively. Australia’s Damien Martin is fifth (255). Out-of-form Indian Cheteshwar Pujara has 229 runs at Wanderers, including a century and a half-century. But it is not clear whether Pujara will play in the second Test starting tomorrow.
Kolipada to write history
Despite having a good record at Wanderers, Kohli has not been performing as well as fans have been expecting in recent times. King Collie ended 2021 without a single century. This is the second year in a row that Kohli has not scored a century. Kohli’s last century was against Bangladesh on November 23, 2019 in Kolkata. In the last Test at Centurion, Kohli had scored 35 in the first innings and 18 in the second innings.
The second Test between India and South Africa starts tomorrow at Wanderers. India lead the series by 113 runs at Centurion. India can win the Test series in South Africa for the first time in their history if they win the Wanderers. The only consolation for India so far was their draw in the Test series under MS Dhoni in the 2010/11 season.
