Amaravati: South India’s second Vande Bharat train is getting ready to run between Secunderabad and Vijayawada from the coming New Year.

The Vande Bharat train is being manufactured under the Make in India program by ICF (Integral Coach Factory) at Perampur, Chennai.

The first service between New Delhi and Varanasi started on February 15, 2019. Accordingly, these trains are operated on four routes namely New Delhi – Jammu Kashmir, Mumbai – Gandhi Nagar, New Delhi – Una of Himachal Pradesh.
South India’s first Vande Bharat train, the fifth route, was inaugurated by the Prime Minister last month between Chennai and Mysore. Currently, South India’s second Vande Bharat train is ready to run between Secunderabad and Vijayawada from the coming New Year.

Regarding this, the railway officials say: The second Vande Bharat train in South India, which is currently being operated, is the 6th Vande Bharat train in the country. The train is ready to run from New Year onwards. And after February this train is planned to be extended till Visakhapatnam. For this a study will be conducted soon on the feasibility of operating between Vijayawada Visakhapatnam. It is planned to run 75 Vande Bharat trains on various routes across the country by August 2023.

Earlier, the Vande Bharat Express train service from Maharashtra state capital Mumbai to Gujarat state capital Gandhi Nagar was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 30. In the two months since the train started service, the front of the train has been damaged by hitting cows four times.

It is to be noted that a ‘tender’ has been requested for constructing a barrier fence for 620 km between Mumbai and Gandhi Nagar at a cost of 264 crores.
