Spain exported more than 8,000 million in car components

In the second quarter of the year, the turnover figure for exports of Spanish automotive equipment and components increased by +7.6% year-on-year, reaching 8,049 million euros. In the annual turnover of the sector, the contribution of foreign demand is fundamental, becoming an engine for the growth and strengthening of this industry, characterized by a broad export base.

“Exports from the automobile sector in the analyzed period have been the ones with the greatest positive contribution to the foreign sales of the Spanish economy, representing 14.5% of the total,” stated Sernauto, the employer’s association that represents manufacturers in the auxiliary industry. Between May and August, the weight of Spanish sales from automotive suppliers to European Union (EU27) markets in the global figure for quarterly exports has increased by 2 percentage points, standing at 67.1%.

The improvement in demand from the main community partners continues, which has contributed positively to turnover, with a growth of +11.4% year-on-year, and a figure of 5.4 billion euros.

Breaking down by EU country, the good performance of our main trading partners stands out, in which in year-on-year terms, turnover has maintained its dynamism. Germany leads the ranking (+11.5%), with a figure of 1,366 million euros, followed by France (+6.7%), with a sales value of 1,287 million euros, Portugal (+11, 6%), with 694 million euros of turnover, Italy (+4%), with 399 million euros, Poland (+35.5%) with 346 million euros and the Czech Republic (+15%), with 237 million of euros.

During this period, the dynamism of exports to Morocco, our second non-EU client, stands out, increasing by +24% year-on-year, for an amount of 389 million euros. On the contrary, exports aimed at the United States market have decreased by -41%, placing the turnover there at 323 million euros.

There is also progress in exports to Turkey, which register an interannual growth rate of +56%, with a quarterly turnover to that market of 198 million euros.

Other relevant markets for Spanish exports are Mexico (+6.9% year-on-year), China (-9.3% year-on-year), South Africa (+35% year-on-year) and Japan (+28.1% year-on-year). Heterogeneity is observed according to geographical areas, in which the drop in demand from China stands out, reflecting the slowdown of its economy in the second quarter of the year.
