Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA), the oldest organization of sports journalists and sports writers in the country. Two years after its establishment in 1962, i.e. since 1964, the organization has been awarding the best athletes and sportsmen. In continuation of that, on Sunday (April 21, 2024), the best of 2023 awards were presented through a grand ceremony.

Imranur Rahman, the fastest man of the country, has received the recognition of Sports Person of the Year. Sheikh Morsalin, the young forward of the national football team, received the popular choice award.

BSPA President Rezwan Uz Zaman Rajib presided over the event as the guest of honor of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Youth and Sports Ministry and former State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell MP and Square Toiletries Limited Managing Director Anjan Chowdhury.

Awardees:
Sports Person of the Year: Champion- Imranur Rahman (Athletics), Runners-up- Nazmul Hossain Shanto (Cricket) and Rakib Hossain (Football).

Popular Choice Award: Sheikh Morsalin (Football), Cricketer of the Year (Male): Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Cricketer of the Year (Female): Farzana Haque Pinki,
Footballer of the Year: Rakib Hossain,
Athlete of the Year (Track and Field): Imranur Rahman, Boxer of the Year: Salim Hossain,
Shooter of the Year: Kamrun Nahar Kohli,
Table Tennis Player of the Year: Ramhim Lyon Bom, Emerging Sportsperson: Sheikh Morsalin (Football),
Team Achievement of the Year: Under-19 Cricket Team,
Active Organizations: Directorate of Primary Education, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education,
Coach of the Year: Alfaz Ahmed,
Trinamool Sports Personality: Moazzem Hossain (Weightlifting),
Organizer of the Year: Habibur Rahman (Kabaddi) and Special Honors – Manjur Hossain Malu.

Sports Person of the Year Imranur Rahman said, ‘Thank you to everyone. There are Paris Olympics and South Asian Games ahead, I want to do something good there.’

People’s Choice Award winner Sheikh Morsalin said, ‘Personal goal, for now is to take Bashundhara Kings forward. I am also playing in the national team. I want to advance the national team. I am a little surprised that Shanto-Pinky-Imranur won it behind them. Thank you to those who voted for me.’

President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Youth and Sports and former Minister of State for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell said, ‘BSPA has been organizing this for 60 years. For this, I express my sincere congratulations and thanks to BSPA. We believe that our players, organizers, with their hard work, will take the sport to the level we have reached today.’

Anjan Chowdhury, managing director of Square Toiletries Ltd., guest of honour, said, ‘When you come to this event, you meet many people. It’s a matter of liking. We have been with BSPA for 10 years. As long as they keep us, we will stay. This award I think motivates athletes. To those who received the award, thank you. Those who didn’t get it, don’t worry. Let them take it as a challenge to do better in future.’
