RLooking back, the hype surrounding the soccer jersey could have reached its peak in 2018, shortly before the World Cup in Russia. One nation enjoyed the wonderful feeling of being a world champion, looking forward to public viewing events, barbecues in front of the television, and betting games with colleagues. The weather was fantastic, the mood was good. Of course, it needed something suitable to wear. Not only Adidas was ready, also houses far away from football like s.Oliver and Schumacher put on T-shirts with thematically matching motifs. After the 2-0 defeat in the preliminary round against South Korea, these parts were at most something for the back of the closet. The 2021 jersey has rarely even landed there, and you don’t need a new one without public viewings.
There are, of course, greater tragedies than the fact that the merchandising business is going badly in this summer of sports, in which two major events are being rescheduled. That doesn’t mean that the sport hasn’t long since arrived in fashion. Sneakers with everything, yoga clothing that is at least suitable for supermarket shopping, hoodies instead of jackets, all of this is not just for comfort, it also signals: I’m a relaxed guy, even if I stay available for my employer on weekends and on the Communicate via three channels at the same time.
Even sunglasses, for which the comfort criterion really does not have to play a role, fit in with this trend of sportiness in everyday fashion. They are angular, like by Prada (top right) and Lindberg (bottom left), half of them are frameless like by Giorgio Armani (top center). So they’re not big and round, à la Jackie O. Even the Saint Laurent model (bottom center) still looks sporty and dynamic, although it cites the retro cat-eye style. Glasses like those from Viu (top left) and Bottega Veneta (bottom right) may not be made for real racing biking, unless you simply use your super sports bike in the city, which is supposed to be increasingly popular.
