A body recovered from a lake in Abitibi-Témiscamingue

(Quebec) The body of a man who had been missing since last Saturday was recovered Monday afternoon in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.



The search, in collaboration with divers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), continued Monday, but it was a citizen who saw the body at Lake Hunter’s Point, near the Kipawa zec, who notified the police.

“The inanimate body of man was fished out of the water by the nautical patrollers of the Sûreté du Québec. He was transported to a hospital center, where unfortunately his death was noted, ”said Sergeant Hélène St-Pierre, spokesperson for the SQ.

The identity of the victim has not been released, but it is a man in his sixties who was missing from a party in the area. The victim was last seen around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, but it was not until the next morning, around 9 a.m., that he was absent and the police were notified.

“The investigation is continuing to establish the causes and circumstances of this death. According to the first findings, it could be a drowning, ”said the spokesperson for the SQ.
