Spotify Premium Costs Rise Again in US, Marking Third Increase Since 2023

Spotify is increasing the price of its Premium subscriptions in the United States, representing the third price adjustment for the music streaming service since 2023. While the increases are relatively modest for many tiers, the move reflects a broader trend of rising costs across the streaming landscape.

The price adjustments, which will take effect with the next billing cycle, will see Individual Premium plans increase from $11.99 to $12.99 per month. Student plans will rise from $5.99 to $6.99, a $1 increase. Duo plans are going up from $16.99 to $18.99, and Family plans will move to $19.99 from $21.99, a $2 increase.

According to a company release, Spotify stated that “occasional updates to pricing across our markets reflect the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists.” The streaming music platform emphasized its commitment to “keep delivering a great experience” as the rationale behind the price hike.

This latest increase follows previous adjustments in 2023 and 2024. Notably, Spotify maintained a consistent price of $9.99 per month for over a decade since its launch in 2011 before initiating these recent changes. Since the last price increase, the company has rolled out features like its surprisingly excellent AI DJ and lossless audio support.

The price hikes are not limited to the US, with Spotify also increasing costs in other regions, including Estonia and Latvia.

The price increases come as other streaming services, such as Netflix and Disney+, have also recently raised their subscription fees. This suggests a broader industry shift as companies seek to bolster revenue and continue investing in content and technology.
