Spotify Unveils New “Create Cover Art” Feature for Playlists
Spotify has introduced an exciting new feature called “Create cover art” for playlists, allowing users to create custom collages to represent their playlists. This beta feature is available to both free and Spotify Premium members in 65 markets, primarily targeting English users.
The company collaborated with renowned artists such as Ugly Primo, known for designing Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti album cover, and Cey Adams, who has worked with famous names like The Notorious B.I.G and Beastie Boys, to enrich the creative experience.
“I gave it a shot and produced the masterpiece below, using a picture I took of a possum that was lurking outside my kid’s bedroom one night,” noted a user who tested the feature. “It’s a pleasantly robust image maker, with layering, various effects, and the ability to rotate or change the size of images. However, as it is still in beta, users currently cannot edit images after saving them or save drafts.”
Interestingly, YouTube Music launched a similar feature last year, utilizing AI with preselected themes. However, Spotify opted for a more interactive approach that encourages creativity and engagement, rather than relying solely on various menu options. The platform has also engaged actual artists to create 40 stickers that users can incorporate into their cover art.
To try the new feature, simply open a playlist you’ve created, tap the three dots button, and select “Create cover art.” (You may need to close and reopen the app to see this option.)
