Sri Lanka’s former finance minister Basil Rajapaksa, who tried to escape to Dubai, was detained by airport officials and sent back. Following the severe economic crisis in Sri Lanka, the people’s protest against President Gotabaya’s government has reached its peak. In an environment where they had to face great difficulty in getting essential food items, people faced difficulties like power cut for more than 15 hours every day and started holding huge protests on the streets against the government.

The public held a series of protests against the ruling Rajapaksa family as the reason for this worst disorder in the country. Due to this, Gothapaya’s family has been kept safe under military and police protection. In this case, Sri Lanka’s former finance minister and one of Gotabaya’s brothers, Basil Rajapaksa, went to Katunayake International Airport this morning to go to Dubai.

However, the airport officials who stopped him have categorically stated that they cannot allow him to go abroad. Thus, Basil Rajapaksa has returned to his residence.

It has been reported that Gotabaya, who recently entered the Presidential Palace after the public entered it, boarded a ship and went to the middle sea, has now returned to Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, surveillance at airports has been intensified to prevent politicians from fleeing Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, the officials who give permission to the passengers to go abroad have refrained from working at the airport. In this case, it has been reported that Gotabaya Rajapaksa will step down from the post of President tomorrow and the new President will be chosen on July 20.
