A new center dedicated to thorough diabetes care, the KKU Center of excellence of Diabetes at Srinakarin Hospital, Khon Kaen University, is set to open its doors on Friday, November 21, 2025, offering a “One Stop Service” model designed to improve health outcomes for patients in Northeast Thailand adn surrounding regions.
The initiative responds to a growing need for specialized diabetes care, as the number of patients diagnosed with the condition continues to rise annually. Srinakarin Hospital Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, is positioning the center as a regional leader in both treatment and research, striving to meet international standards of excellence.
A Multidisciplinary Approach to Patient-Centered Care
The center’s core philosophy centers on patient-centered care, integrating a diverse team of medical professionals. According to a senior official at Srinakarin Hospital, the team includes endocrinology and metabolism specialists, expert nurses specializing in diabetes care (Advanced Practice Nurses or APNs), pharmacists, dietitians, physical therapists, and health promotion specialists. This collaborative approach allows for individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s specific needs.
“By combining expertise from multiple disciplines, we can definitely help patients control their sugar levels effectively, reduce the risk of complications, and improve their quality of life in the long term,” the official stated.
Streamlined Services for Complex Cases
The “One Stop Service” model aims to simplify the patient experience, particularly for those with complex diabetes cases. Patients receiving consultations from various departments will be able to undergo symptom evaluation, diagnosis, nutritional counseling, medication adjustments, and screenings for complications – including diabetic retinopathy and diabetic foot ulcers – all in a single location. This streamlined process is designed to reduce wait times, minimize logistical burdens, and ensure access to standardized, high-quality medical services.
Beyond direct patient care, the center is committed to innovation and education. This includes ongoing training for nurses to enhance their diabetes care competencies and public awareness campaigns, such as those held annually on World Diabetes Day, to promote sustainable self-management practices.
Elevating Regional Healthcare Standards
The establishment of the KKU Center of Excellence of Diabetes is a key component of Srinakarin Hospital’s broader mission to elevate its health service system to international standards. The hospital aims to become a leading center for comprehensive diabetes care in the region, integrating services, teaching, and health research.
The Diabetes Center of Excellence will be open for service every Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Internal Medicine Examination Room No. 8. This new facility represents a meaningful step forward in addressing the growing challenge of diabetes and improving the health and well-being of communities throughout Northeast Thailand.
