We can understand them: of the 7,500 active satellites orbiting in low orbit (below 2,000 km altitude), more than 6,000 make up Elon Musk’s Internet service provider constellation. A bloated fleet whose sustainability must be guaranteed. Furthermore, the company has adopted “a more restrictive framework” than international standards in terms of safety, according to Pierre Omaly, project manager of Tech For Space Care (T4SC) at the National Center for Space Studies (Cnes).
