Stephanie White Out as Head Coach of Connecticut Sun
The Connecticut Sun have announced that Stephanie White is no longer the head coach of the team. The announcement came Monday following a two-season tenure.
“We want to thank Stephanie for her time in Connecticut and her commitment to our organization over the past two seasons,” Sun president Jen Rizzotti stated in a news release. “We wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
White, 47, began her time with the Sun in 2023, achieving a notable 27-13 record in her first season and finishing 28-12 in the 2024 season. However, the team was eliminated in the playoff semifinals during both years. Her performance earned her the WNBA Coach of the Year title in 2023.
The Connecticut Sun marks the seventh out of 12 WNBA teams to part ways with their head coach this offseason. Other teams making coaching changes include the Los Angeles Sparks, Chicago Sky, Atlanta Dream, Dallas Wings, Washington Mystics, and Indiana Fever.
White began her coaching career in the WNBA as an assistant with the Chicago Sky from 2007 to 2010. She then served as an assistant coach for the Indiana Fever from 2011 to 2014 before being elevated to head coach of the Fever from 2015 to 2016.
Prior to her role with the Sun, White coached at Vanderbilt University for five seasons. She has a strong basketball background, having played high school and college basketball at Purdue University before being drafted in the second round by the WNBA’s Charlotte Sting in 1999.
