Despite reports suggesting a potential White House run in 2028,Steve Bannon has emphatically dismissed rumors of his own presidential ambitions, labeling them “bulls***.” The former White House strategist insists his efforts are solely focused on securing a third term for President Donald Trump, even if it requires challenging constitutional limits.
Trump Ally Dismisses Presidential Speculation
According to a report by Axios, Bannon, 72, informed allies of his intention to support a “America First” agenda aimed at unifying Republicans. The outlet initially claimed this support would manifest through his own campaign for the presidency, championing a platform of non-interventionist foreign policy, economic populism, and opposition to “Big Tech.” However, Bannon swiftly refuted these claims.
“We don’t have a country if we don’t get every ounce of fight and energy from President Trump,” Bannon told Axios over the weekend. He further stated, “You can drive a Mack Truck through the 22nd Amendment – and that’s exactly what I intend to do in order to save our country.”
Legal Arguments for a Third Trump Term
Bannon is actively involved in exploring legal avenues for a third Trump presidency. He is providing input for an upcoming book, “Could President Trump Constitutionally Serve a Third Term?” authored by lawyer Alan Dershowitz. the book reportedly aims to construct a legal argument supporting the possibility of Trump serving beyond the two-term limit established by the U.S.Constitution.
during an October interview with The Economist, Bannon revealed that Team Trump has already strategized methods to maintain the former president’s presence in the White house. He previously hinted at circumventing the 22nd Amendment, which restricts individuals to a maximum of two elected presidential terms.
“At the appropriate time we’ll lay out what the plan is, but there’s a plan and President Trump will be the president in ’28,” Bannon asserted. When pressed on the constitutional implications, he confidently stated, “There’s many different alternatives.at the appropriate time, we’ll lay out what the plan is, but there’s a plan.” He expressed certainty that Trump would win reelection in 2028, irrespective of the Democratic nominee. “He’s gonna get a third term. trump is gonna be president in ’28, and people just sort of [need to] get accommodated with that,” he saeid.
Trump’s Own Hints at a Third Term
President Trump himself has alluded to the possibility of a third term, musing about being a “three-term president” during a National Rifle Association event in May. though, he has not yet presented any concrete plans to pursue such a course of action.
The 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, explicitly prohibits anyone from being “elected to the office of the President more than twice.” It also stipulates that anyone who has served more than two years of another president’s term cannot be elected president more than once. Given Trump’s prior presidency from 2016 to 2020 and his current term beginning in 2024, he would reach the constitutional limit by 2028.
Epstein Files Reveal Past Associations
The renewed focus on Bannon and Trump comes amid the latest release of the Jeffrey Epstein files by congress. Images surfaced showing both men in close proximity to the convicted sex offender. Bannon was photographed with Epstein in his New York City townhouse, while Trump appeared in several photographs alongside him. While these images have drawn scrutiny, authorities have stated they do not implicate either man in Epstein’s crimes. Epstein and Bannon maintained a professional relationship between 2018 and 2019,with Bannon providing media coaching to the financier.
The unfolding situation underscores the complex political landscape and the ongoing efforts to shape the future of the Republican party, even as questions linger about the boundaries of presidential power and the interpretation of the U.S. Constitution.
