After a 35-year hiatus, Stiliyan Petrov got back his first award from football – a bottle of lemonade. This happened at the presentation of the book of his first coach Alexander Gigov – “Football already 100 summers”. It is dedicated to the anniversary of football in his hometown of Montana.
“It was an indescribable reward. He found a way to set us on fire. I was very proud of it, but I never tried it. Our people took her away from me when I returned home”, admitted Stiliyan emotionally.
Alexander Gigov said that he made the book because of the memory of his father, who collected stories from the past and above all to show how a great football player can emerge from a non-football town like Montana, if he has the desire and faith for it.
“I purposely played it bad for them to prepare them for what awaits them. But he didn’t accept that. He would take the ball and sit on it. I tried to explain to him what it was all about. He answered me – one day I will become like Stoichkov”, Gigov added.
Stilyan Petrov did not miss the topic of the BFS congress on Friday.
“Then the future of football in Bulgaria is decided. Let the clubs vote without fear and with conscience. For us, power is not an end in itself. Let the most worthy in their opinion win”, he declared. He respected Gigov, although his father Alyosha is in a rather serious condition in hospital.
