Students attacked an elderly man today after he remarked to them that they were making noise in a minibus moving from Lovech to the village of Slavyani. The three children are of Roma origin and are aged 14, 17 and 18. Their identities have been established, but they are being sought, as they went into hiding after the incident, reported the regional directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Lovech.

The call was made shortly after 2:00 p.m.

“The students went up from Lovech. They took to shouting and throwing rubbish at the van. The old man made a remark to them, and they started insulting him and threatened to beat him up when they got to Slavyani. When he got off at the bus stop in the village, he was attacked,” the driver of the vehicle, Ivan Draganchev, explained to journalists.

The attacked passenger, Mitko Todorov, who was not seriously injured, explained that he told the young people to be quieter because he had an illness.

“The students told me that they were not interested in this at all and that when they went down to Slavyani, they would beat me up. On the way down, they started hitting and pushing me. We called the police, but they ran away,” Todorov said.

The case is being investigated.

The transport company reported that there were other incidents with the same students. About a month ago, they used an electric shock against another of their drivers, who then left his job.
