The Delhi government has decided to conduct only online classes for students throughout the coming week as air pollution in Delhi has increased drastically. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced that students should not come to school and can join classes online from their homes.

The Delhi government on Saturday took several important decisions as air quality has been severely affected by various factors such as burning of crop residues. The apex court, which heard the case on air pollution, had suggested that a two-day general freeze be imposed in Delhi.

The Delhi government has taken various decisions in this regard. Accordingly, it has been ordered to stop the construction work completely till November 17. It has also been decided that civil servants can continue work from their homes in “work from home” mode without going to the office.

Fireworks exploded during the Diwali celebrations in defiance of the ban, as air quality had been affected even before the Deepavali festival. In addition, crop waste burning has increased in states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. As a result, air quality is deteriorating day by day and the air quality in the capital Delhi is not suitable for breathing at present.

It is in this context that the Delhi government today announced various decisions in an effort to control air pollution. Attempts are already being made to control air pollution by pumping water through giant machines in various parts of Delhi. Regulations restricting vehicle use are also expected to be announced soon.
