Sujatha and Tanya left engineering and entered the world of business. Within no time he touched the heights of success. Sujata and Tanya Biswas belong to West Bengal. She wanted to do something different in the field of sarees. This is how ‘Suta’ started. He named it by combining the first two letters of his name, ‘Su’ and ‘Ta’. Both of them started it with a capital of Rs 6 lakh by investing Rs 3 lakh each. Before starting the venture, he visited different places to learn and understand weaving. Their aim was to make traditional clothes attractive and popular among young women.

Sujata and Tanya took the initiative to make sarees relevant among the generation that is active on social media. He decided to learn the intricacies of this work. Initially she went to the villages of Bengal and Odisha. Then she kept roaming across the country to make her sarees. She had nothing at home except a cupboard where she kept sarees. Then he took a dilapidated warehouse on rent. Some of the villages where Sujata and her sister initially went to meet the weavers were Phulia, Bishnupur, Rajpur and Dhaniakhali in Bengal.
The foundation of the company was laid in 2016
The two sisters laid the foundation of Suta Sarees in 2016. From those humble beginnings she has come a long way. Their annual revenue has crossed Rs 50 crore. Till now both the sisters have been running their work without any external funding. During the Corona pandemic, many retailers had to open online stores. Whereas with ‘Suta’ the story was completely opposite. He decided to open a physical store soon after the Covid lockdown ended.
Idea came from grandmother
Sujatha and Tanya realized that shopping for clothes, especially sarees, cannot be done only online. People like to take decision of buying sarees just by looking at them. Keeping this in view, the sisters started a store in Kolkata. Then they expanded to many other cities also. The price of their sarees generally ranges from Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,500. Sujata and Tanya got the idea after seeing their mother and grandmother wearing silk sarees. They thought why not make sarees that are comfortable both at home and office.
