Dhanush’s Relief In Poster Case: The Supreme Court rejected a plea seeking a case against Dhanush for including smoking a cigarette in a movie poster. The action is on a petition demanding that a case be filed against Dhanush under the ‘Kotpa’ Act against the inclusion of the smoking scene. The petition was against the producers, distributors and Dhanush of the 2014 film ‘Vela Illa Pattadhari’.

The petitioner is Cyril Alexander, the state convener of an anti-smoking organization. The court pointed out that the movie in the poster was made up of persons who had nothing to do with smoking products or the tobacco trade. The poster is not associated with the manufacture and distribution of tobacco products.

It cannot be considered established for the promotion of the product. Therefore, the Supreme Court stated that it is not interfering with the petition. The Supreme Court has also confirmed the High Court’s judgment rejecting the earlier petition.
