“Tagesschau” spokeswoman Susanne Daubner actually announced that she would no longer announce the youth word of the year. But she changed her mind.
News anchor Susanne Daubner was convinced by her fans and once again explained the youth word of the year on the “Tagesschau” social media channels. “Dear community, your comments amazed and touched me so much. I read almost all of them and I have to say: you convinced me,” said the 63-year-old in a video on the “Tagesschau” Instagram channel.
Daubner had actually announced at the end of July that he would no longer present the youth word of the year on the Internet and would now let others go first – but after the protest of her admirers, she now had a change of heart: “Yes, I’m back for you and will continue to use the youth words announce for you.”
Accordingly, she also presented the current winner “Aura” – the term for a person’s special charisma and charisma – and immediately followed up with a suitable example in her familiar style: “I was simply replaced by an AI – minus 5000 aura.” In this year’s vote by Langenscheidt Verlag, “Aura” came out on top, just ahead of “Talahon” and “Schere”.
There was great joy in the comments section. “Susanne is back! So there’s some good news too,” one person wrote. “Yes, it’s happening again,” cheered another subscriber. “Infinite aura for this comeback. The world is right again,” someone said happily. “My icon” can also be read.
The youth word of the year has been around since 2008. Daubner had presented the respective words in posts for social networks in recent years – and created a fan base in the process. In 2021, she presented the winning word “Cringe”, which means “to make others ashamed”, in a clip and explained it in a stately tone as follows: “‘Cringe’ is the feeling you have when I say the following sentence: ‘Digga, How fly is the ‘Tagesschau’ when it flexes with young people’s words? Runs with you – ARD.”
