Suspicious Object Found in Örebro, Residents Evacuated

A suspicious object was discovered near a gate in the quarters north of the castle in central Örebro on Sunday morning. The bomb protection team has not been able to rule out the possibility that the object is dangerous, according to Lars Hedelin, press spokesperson for the police in Bergslagen.

As a precautionary measure, residents within the cordoned area are being evacuated. The police have not yet decided on the extent and method of the evacuation. Ensuring the safety of everyone involved is the top priority.

Multiple units of emergency personnel are currently on-site, and specialized personnel will be brought in to handle the situation. At present, no suspects have been identified.

In a separate incident on Saturday, another suspicious object was found in a stairwell in Sörbyängen, Örebro. However, the object was determined to be non-explosive. Lars Hedelin stated that there is no immediate connection between the two events, but further investigation is required.

Initially, Saturday’s incident was treated as preparation for public destruction, leading to the evacuation of three stairwells. However, bomb experts confirmed that the object did not contain any explosives or dangerous components, and the criminal classification was changed to unlawful threats.

Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or objects. Updates on the situation in Örebro will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
